Welcome! If you have reached this page, then your child's school has been scheduled for a visit from the Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey Development Team!
Started in 2015, the Tampa Bay Lightning established the Equip the Thunder initiative and set out on a mission to grow the sport of hockey amongst kids in the Tampa area. Since then, we have visited over 1,000 schools and have interacted with over 200 thousand kids in the area. As part of the “Equip the Thunder” program, our Lightning Hockey Development Team visit Tampa area Elementary and Middle schools and take over the P.E. classes for the day. During this time, we teach the children how to play ball hockey by running them through various “skills stations” and then having them play a timed scrimmage at the end of class. The drills consist of learning how to stick handle the ball, learning how to angle a bank pass, and how to pass and shoot. The instruction is provided by members of our Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey Development Team and is led by one of our Lightning alumni.
In addition, we donate a complete set of street hockey gear to the school, including: sticks, 2-goal nets, a case of balls and reversible Lightning pinnies. This is a FREE Community outreach program offered by the Lightning organization.
Thank you for your time and we will see you soon!
Go Bolts!
